Built entirely of marble, the imposing stoa was constructed by Philip V of Macedonia in 210 BC in honour of Apollo. It is 72 metres long and 11 metres wide, and was once supported by 16 Doric columns.

The Stoa of Philip V is one of the first monuments that the visitor to the archaeological site of Delos encounters. It is located south of Apollo's Sanctuary and, together with the South Stoa, defines the Sacred Road, which ends in the Propylaea.

Today the building is preserved only at the level of its foundations, but a wealth of ancient architectural fragments are preserved, which will facilitate restoration.

Philip V was king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia from 221 to 179 BC.
